Montenegro’s summer cranks into full gear in June!
Festivals in June
The days and nights resound with performances, music events and entertaining programs. Night clubs even post go-go dancers on the main promenade to compete for your patronage. Join the jetsetters who moor their yachts along the marina and stroll in for a drink…
Budva fest is summer’s traditional grand entry with performers in full regalia. The 9-th edition of “BUDVA FEST” was held from 1 to 5 June in Budva (Montenegro). Groups from Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, Turkey and Romania with more than 350 performers participated in the event. Kotor, Herceg Novi and Budva’s merriment continues until September, with singing and dancing folklore and choir musical events.
If you wish to stay informed of the next EU festival near by, you will find it here.
Every year on 22 July, after sunset, the rowing boats in Kotor decorated with poplar branches and loaded with rocks, set out to the sound of bugarstica (a kind of local epic and ballad poetry), towards the island of Our Lady of the Rocks or Gospa od Skrpjela ,built on its very own island that looks like it’s floating in the Bay of Kotor (Montenegrin: Boka Kotorska).
Legend states that fishermen from Perast found an icon of the Virgin and Christ (which now stands on the altar) on a rock. They sank more rocks in the wrecks of old boats to make an island and built a church which would bear the name of the icon, and what a beautiful little blue-domed chapel it is. Since then it has been the unwritten promise of Perast sailors to drop a new rock around the island before every voyage they make, as a contribution to the stability of the foundation of the church. This is probably how the Fascinada started.
As part of the Fascinada an international regatta for sailing yachts has been organized for the past two years, which completes the picture of Perast and its sailors. The Regatta is held in the straits in front of Perast, around the island up to the straits of Verige and in part of the Bay of Tivat, and is organized by the Yachting Association of Montenegro. Each 22nd July, tourists and local people from the Bay come to Perast to enjoy the event and tradition of the Bay of Kotor
Its fun and Tango Woodstock time in the mountains of Montenegro. It’s an almost free event for all those who love dancing and enjoy Tango, oh yeah! Who doesn’t love mountain air, countryside food and dancing from July 25th to August 11.
June has two other stand-out happenings, the Montenegro Southern Soul Festival and Purgatorije 2018 - Centre of the Summer.
June 28 – July 1
Southern Soul Festival Montenegro
The Festival “returns for its 6th year to bring you a magical experience of music, dance, sea and sun. A four day sun-kissed musical holiday completed with the soundtrack of your life!”
The party and music will be non-stop, with great artists laying down soul, jazz, funk, house and disco. Three stages are spaced out along Velika Beach, one of the best beaches around! The line-up is lit up with great talent: Chris Dave & The Drumhedz, Faze Action, Hailu Mergia, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, Jazzanova featuring Paul Randolph, Keyon Harrold, Leroy Burgess, Mad Professor featuring U-Roy and Native Dancer, and the DJ list is simply enormous.
The Festival is also a great excuse to explore the southern tip of Montenegro and the city of Ulinj. Several beaches, islands, a medieval fortress and the old town, shops, restaurants and bars aplenty are waiting, and there is no shortage of stuff to do.
